Ishizai stood impatiently outside the airport with DMG.
“Surely their plane has landed by now,” she muttered, “Why is it taking so long?” DMG smiled and wrapped her arms round Ishizai’s waist.
“They’ll be here soon,” she smiled, “Just try being patient.”
“Ishizai…patient? Yeah right,” a familiar soft voice laughed.
“Marik!” Ishizai squeed excitedly, taking DMG’s arms from around her waist and running over to Marik, hugging him tightly. Marik hugged her back with one arm, a suitcase in the other. Behind him stood Ishizu, Odion, Menefer, the rest of the Bakhums and their monsters.
“Good to see you again Ishizai,” Menefer smiled, “It’s been too long.” Ishizai let go of Marik and hugged Menefer.
“Indeed it has,” she smiled, “I’m so glad to see you all. I got really worried when I saw the news this morning.”
“So did we,” Ishizu nodded, “Which is why we came over here.” She hugged Ishizai and smiled. Ishizai smiled back then hugged Odion.
“Did you have the dream too Ishizai?” Kana, Menefer’s nine-year-old sister, asked. Ishizai nodded.
“Yup and so did DMG and Masenko and all the others,” she replied, “You should have seen DMG in action…she saved my life.” Kana’s eyes widened slightly then she looked at DMG as if DMG were some kind of superhero. DMG sweatdropped slightly but smiled nonetheless.
“Think it’ll happen again?” Odion asked quietly. Nobody answered, each of them with a thoughtful expression on there face.
“I hope not,” Menefer finally whispered, “I don’t think I could stand to see anymore people die.”
“Who did you see die?” Ishizai asked, looking at Menefer, a curious expression crossing her features.
“Remember that gang of boys that used to bully us years ago?” Menefer asked. Ishizai nodded. “They…They’re dead…all of them…”
“You’re joking?!” Ishizai gasped, “Every single one of them?”
“Yup,” Menefer sighed, “Sure they probably deserved to die but not like that…nobody deserves to be torn apart.”
“Can we change the subject now?” DMG asked, turning a little green. Ishizai nodded then smiled at everyone.
“Who wants to go out to eat?” she asked, “Me and DMG found this great restaurant the other week.”
“Sounds good,” Marik smiled, “Just let us drop our cases off at the warehouse…assuming you haven’t lost the keys.”
“Um…” Ishizai mumbled, “I didn’t lose them…but…I did forget them.” DMG rolled her eyes.
“Why don’t you drop your cases off at ours then we go out to eat and take you to the warehouse afterwards?” DMG suggested.
“Much simpler,” Ishizai nodded, “Lead the way.” Ishizai smiled and held DMG’s hand as they turned and began to walk home. Ishizai could hear Menefer muttering something under her breath and sighed.
“You’d forgotten she likes you too hadn’t you?” DMG asked telepathically.
“Yeah…I hope she’s not as clingy as last time I saw her though,” Ishizai replied, “You remember that time…the first time you met her and the pair of you wouldn’t stop fighting for my attention.”
“Well she was so clingy that I barely got to spend any time at all with you,” DMG sighed, “It was rather lonely and so I took it out on the source of the problem…Menefer.”
“And at one point you took it out on me,” Ishizai reminded her, “But that’s all in the past know I’m sure this time will be much different.” DMG nodded and they walked the rest of the way in silence.
Ishizai opened the door and turned on the light.
“Just dump your stuff in here on the living room,” she said, “I’m gonna go grab my purse.” The others nodded and Ishizai darted upstairs to the bedroom. Opening the door she immediately noticed something different…there were bloody footprints on the floor and a piece of blood stained paper on the bed.
“DMG grab a weapon and get up here now,” Ishizai said telepathically, closing the door again.
“Why what’s wrong?” DMG asked sounding worried.
“You’ll see now hurry,” Ishizai muttered, slight fear in her voice then to herself thought, “Were they here and if so how did they get in?” A few moments later Ishizai heard the sound of footsteps coming up the stairs and turned to see DMG holding a knife.
“What is it?” she asked, “What’s happened?”
“Look for yourself,” Ishizai replied, slowly opening the door. She heard DMG gasp.
“What in Ra’s name is going on?” she muttered, slowly stepping into the room, knife at the ready.
I have no idea,” Ishizai sighed, following her in. DMG began to search the room while Ishizai grabbed her purse then turned to the piece of paper on the bed, picking it up and reading it.
“There’s nobody here,” DMG said, lowering the knife, “Weird.”
“Look at this,” Ishizai said, holding out the piece of paper for DMG to read. DMG looked at it. It read:
It is not a dream. Try and find me next time it happens and I will explain all I know.
Alice
P.S Sorry about your carpet.
“Who the hell is Alice?” Ishizai asked, looking at DMG as if she might know.
“No idea,” DMG replied, “But she seems to know something about what’s going on…it is not a dream. What does she mean by that? What else can it be if it’s not a dream?”
“Looks like it’s probably going to happen again,” Ishizai gulped, “We should try and track her down…she might know how to stop it.” DMG nodded.
“We should warn the others about this,” she said, “You tell them lot down stairs I’ll concentrate on telling Yugi and that lot through their monsters.” Ishizai nodded and they both left the room, closing the door behind them.
“We’ve got bad news,” Ishizai said as they reached the others waiting downstairs, “That dream…it’s going to happen again.”
“What?” Menefer gasped, “How do you know?” Ishizai said nothing but handed her the piece of paper. Menefer read it, going pale as she did then passed it round for the others to read.
“I can’t believe this,” Ishizu mumbled, looking scared, “What does she mean it’s not a dream?”
“No idea,” Ishizai replied, “Which is why me and DMG have agreed to track her down next time…to find out what the hell is going on and how to stop it happening again!”
“Good idea,” Marik said, “But a dangerous one.”
“Not as dangerous than letting this continue,” Ishizai pointed out and Marik fell silent.
“The others don’t believe me,” DMG sighed, “Well Masenko and Ryou do but the others think I’m crazy.”
“They’ll soon come around don’t worry,” Ishizai said, clutching DMG’s hand in her own, “They’ll see when it happens again.” DMG nodded and silence fell.
“When are we going to eat?” Kana asked, her stomach growling. Ishizai smiled.
“We’ll can go right now if you want,” she said, then looking up at Kana and Menefer’s mother, “What food is it she’s allergic to again?”
“Seafood and anything nutty or dairy related,” she replied.
“That’s ok then,” Ishizai smiled, “Because this place does very little of that.” Kana smiled back at Ishizai.
“Let’s get going then,” Ishizai smiled, still holding DMG’s hand. They left the house, Ishizai locking the door behind her. As they walked away from the house, Ishizai glanced back at the bedroom window. What she saw made her gasp.
“Quick look at the bedroom window,” Ishizai spluttered telepathically to DMG. DMG turned and looked and gasped as well. Someone was standing at the window, watching them walk away. When she saw them watching she grinned, winked and waved then was gone.
“Who the f*ck was that?!” Ishizai gasped.
“Think it could have been that Alice person?” DMG asked.
“Could have been,” Ishizai replied, “I guess we’ll have to wait and find out next time.” DMG nodded then they turned and caught up with the others.
“So where is this restaurant?” Odion asked.
“Just round the corner,” DMG smiled, “It’s a really great place, you’ll love it.”
Ishizai sighed.
“Great,” she muttered, “Now what?” They were now standing in front of the restaurant, looking at the sign on the door which read: Restaurant closed due to death of owner.
“There’s a pizza place a few streets away,” DMG said, “We could go there.”
“Yay pizza,” Kana smiled. Ishizai laughed.
“Looks like we’re going there then,” she smiled, “You alright with that Matt?” Ishizai looked over at Kana’s older brother and he nodded.
“That’s sorted then,” DMG giggled, “Let’s go.” They all grinned and headed off towards the pizza place. They were passing Ryou’s house when suddenly they heard someone burst into tears from inside.
“DMG…do me a favour and ask Necrofear what’s going on,” Ishizai muttered, stopping and looking at the house, a worried look on her face. DMG nodded and silence fell as she spoke with Necrofear. Moments later Ryou came running out of the house, tears streaming down his face. He launched himself at Ishizai, who braced herself and hugged him as he got there.
“Ryou what’s wrong?” she asked, comforting him.
“I just got a phone call,” he cried, “My parents they’re…they’re dead.”
“I’m so sorry Ryou,” Ishizai said, hugging him tighter, “I’m sure they died a quick painless death though…” Ryou shook his head, tears still streaming down his face.
“Torn limb from limb,” he sobbed, “They ended up dying from blood loss.” Ishizai fell silent, not knowing what she could say to comfort him.
“If it helps cheer you up a bit,” she muttered, “We’re going to go get pizza and you’re welcome to join us.” Ryou wiped away his tears a bit.
“I’d like that,” he said, “I don’t really want to be on my own right now.” Ishizai smiled a little.
“Oi Necrofear get your ass out here!” Ishizai yelled, “We’re going for pizza!”
“Hang on!” Necrofear replied, “Someone has to make sure all the lights are off and lock the door.” Ishizai stuck her tongue out at Necrofear, making Ryou laugh a little.
“You guys are the best friends ever,” he said, “You always cheer me up.”
“It’s nothing,” Ishizai smiled, “No fun having a gloomy guts for a friend.” Ryou laughed and nodded, seeing Ishizai’s point. Ishizai let go of Ryou and grinned.
“Let’s get going,” she said, “We’re nearly there now and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into that delicious pizza.” As she said this everybody’s stomachs growled and the others nodded in agreement. Ishizai took DMG’s hand again and they began walking again.
Ishizai tore into the pizza, eating it as quickly as possible.
“Ishy how many times have I told you to take your time when you’re eating?” DMG sighed, “You’re going to end up choking again.”
“But I’m hungry,” Ishizai replied, her mouth full of food.
“You want to choke again?” DMG scowled, “Now slow down or I’ll be forced to feed you.”
“I’d quite like that actually,” Ishizai grinned after swallowing her food.
“Do you ever behave Ishizai?” Marik asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Are you implying I misbehave?” Ishizai laughed. Matt and Kana laughed as well until their mother scolded them.
“Ishizai please,” she pleaded, “Behave yourself a little more in front of the children.”
“You mean I can’t do this?” Ishizai asked, suddenly turning and kissing DMG. DMG blushed, feeling uncomfortable with everyone watching them. Ryou and Menefer looked away and Marik rolled his eyes.
“Awww,” Kana said, smiling, “I like it when Ishizai is like this mommy…it shows we shouldn’t let other people stop us being who we are.” Ishizai stopped kissing DMG and smiled.
“I suppose,” Menefer’s mother sighed, “But please Ishizai…tone it down just a little.” Ishizai nodded.
“As you wish,” she sighed and DMG elbowed her.
“Stop thinking that,” she muttered. Ishizai stuck out her tongue and Matt and Kana laughed.
“You should just act like this round those zombies,” Ishizu muttered, “Kill them with laughter.” Everyone fell silent, remembering that it the events of the previous night were bound to happen again.
“Way to kill a conversation Ishizu,” Menefer muttered then looking at Ryou added, “And way to reduce someone to tears.”
“Oh I’m so sorry Ryou I had completely forgotten,” Ishizai gasped. Ishizai quickly jumped up and hugged Ryou.
“What did I tell you before?” she asked, “No being gloomy.” Ryou smiled a little.
“You should be a comedian Ishizai,” he laughed, “Even in the most depressing of situations you manage to make people smile.”
“I try my best,” she smiled, letting go of him and sitting back down, “Now start shoving pizza in you faces before I eat it all.” Everyone laughed and helped themselves to the remaining slices of pizza.
“You gonna be alright Ryou?” Ishizai asked as they stood outside his house, “You sure you don’t want to crash on the sofa at ours?” Ryou nodded.
“I’ll be fine,” he said, “Besides I have Necrofear to keep me company.”
“I suppose,” Ishizai smiled, “Night then…stay safe and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Hopefully,” Ryou added.
“No I will see you tomorrow,” Ishizai argued, “Got it?”
“Yes ma’am,” Ryou laughed.
“You make sure he stays safe,” Ishizai barked jokingly at Necrofear then seriously added, “You know he’d be a goner without your help.” Necrofear nodded.
“Don’t worry I’ll keep him safe,” she replied, “You lot stay safe too.”
“Of course we will,” DMG smiled, “Night.” They waved at Ryou and Necrofear then headed home to pick up the warehouse keys and everyone’s luggage that they had dumped earlier.
“I’m not looking forward to getting back,” Ishizai told DMG telepathically, “After all that creepy stuff before I probably won’t sleep tonight.”
“Same,” DMG agreed, “But surely that’s partially a good thing right? Maybe it only happens when we fall asleep and if not we can see what happens.”
“Good point,” Ishizai nodded, “I’m glad I’ve got you to cuddle up to though.”
“Why, you scared?” DMG asked.
“Yes and I can tell you are too,” Ishizai replied and DMG nodded, looking up at the approaching house. Ishizai stopped and stared at the bedroom window but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. She shook her head and unlocked the front door. They went in and turned on the lights.
“You guys gather your luggage,” Ishizai said, “Me and DMG will nip upstairs and get the warehouse keys.” Everyone nodded as Ishizai and DMG headed upstairs. DMG opened the bedroom door slowly and gasped.
“Ishizai…the footprints on the carpet,” she gasped, “They’re gone!” Ishizai followed her into the room and saw that this was true…the room was back to the way it had been that morning.
“What in Ra’s name is going on?” Ishizai asked, “Are we going insane?”
“I don’t think so,” DMG muttered, “But this is rather weird.” Ishizai grabbed the warehouse keys.
“Let’s just get the others to the warehouse,” she muttered.
“You just want to be outside again right?” DMG asked and Ishizai nodded, “Let’s go then.” They headed back downstairs and smiled at everyone.
“Let’s roll!” Ishizai said cheerfully, bounding out the house. The others followed and Ishizai locked the door, glancing back as they walked away. The house seemed completely normal. A confused expression crossed Ishizai’s features momentarily then she shook her head and headed off to the warehouse with the rest of them.
“There you go,” Ishizai said, handing Marik the key, “Home sweet home.”
“I can think of better places,” Marik laughed, “But it will do…take care Ishizai.”
“You too,” Ishizai nodded, “And take care of the others.”
“Will do,” he smiled, embracing Ishizai. Ishizai hugged him back then they parted.
“This will all be over soon,” he told her, “You’ll see.”
“I hope so,” she sighed, “And I want us all to make it out of it alive.”
“Well I don’t plan on dying,” Marik laughed, “And I will never let any of the others come to harm you have my word.” Ishizai smiled.
“Thank you Marik,” she said, “Goodnight.”
“Night,” Marik replied, heading inside and shutting the door. DMG came closer to Ishizai and took her hand.
“Let’s head back now,” she whispered, “And hope nothing freaky has happened.” Ishizai nodded.
“I’m starting to wish we’d just stayed with Marik and the others tonight,” she sighed as they walked, “But we’ve got to be strong.” DMG nodded and held Ishizai’s hand tighter in a comforting, understanding way. Ishizai smiled.
“The house seems normal,” she said, nodding at the empty house.
“That’s good,” DMG smiled, “Maybe we’ve just been imagining things.”
“Maybe,” Ishizai muttered, “just maybe.” They went inside and were delighted to find everything as they had left it. They both went upstairs to their room after locking to door and got ready for bed. They then snuggled up to each other under the duvet, the lamp on the bedside table still switched on so they could see everything in the room.
“I feel safe like this,” Ishizai murmured, sounding sleepy.
“So do I,” DMG replied, smiling and sounding just as sleepy. They lay there and gazed happily into each other’s eyes for a while before their exhaustion overwhelmed them and they fell asleep. |
